History

Govt. Degree College, Marripalem, affiliated with Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, is notable for being the first tribal women's college in the ITDA region. Established during the academic year 2011-2012 under the ST sub-plan, this initiative was launched to promote the welfare of tribal women, as per G.O.M.S number 51 dated June 8, 2011, by the Higher Education Department of Andhra Pradesh.

        Initially housed within Govt. Degree College, Chintapalli, the college moved to its permanent location at Downuru Marripalem, within a 6.03-acre campus in the Moolapeta Panchayat, during the 2014-2015 academic year. The college boasts six classrooms and a library that houses 3,675 books.

         Located in a region recognized for its tourist and historical significance in Visakhapatnam District, the area attracts numerous visitors, particularly during the winter season. Tourists flock to experience the local climate, which can drop to -2°C, and enjoy the picturesque cold winter nights and early morning snowfall.

      As of now, the college has 271 women students enrolled in undergraduate courses, with accommodation provided in an attached hostel on the campus. The college's affiliation with Andhra University is officially recorded in the proceedings R.C. No. NOC-II/I/NDC/2011-2012 dated October 1, 2011.
